Building Community Through Tactical Fun
In a world dominated by screens, video games, and online interactions, finding meaningful, in person connections, especially for kids and families, can feel like a lost art. That’s exactly what one family set out to change when they discovered iCOMBAT back in 2016. What started as a search for a paintball alternative quickly turned into something much bigger: a way to bring people together, spark real social interaction, and build a tight-knit community.
Discovering iCOMBAT
“The credit for finding iCOMBAT goes to Charlie,” they shared. “He was looking for an alternative to paintball, which is time-consuming, needs a large group to play, and requires an investment in your own gear. He found iCOMBAT back in 2016 and traveled to Waukesha to play.”
A Real-World Solution to Digital Dilemma
At the time, their kids were in elementary and middle school, diving headfirst into online games like Roblox and other first-person shooters.
“They were spending a lot of time in the basement, playing online games. I was concerned at the lack of actual human interaction, the propensity to be sedentary, and the inability to handle conflict during normal social interactions.”
iCOMBAT offered a way out, a bridge between the digital and real world.
“When Charlie came back and talked about iCOMBAT, it sounded like exactly what we needed: an activity that appeals to all ages, encourages physical activity, builds community, and lets creativity and play break down all kinds of barriers. Over time, we’ve seen really meaningful relationships form at our arena.”
More Than Just a Game
Since launching MI-Combat, the changes have been remarkable.
“It’s harder than ever to make friends in a tech-based world. We’ve seen both kids and adults, especially those who didn’t fit into traditional sports or didn’t have a solid friend group, find a place to belong. We've seen people learn the rules of healthy competition and how to defuse moments where it gets heated. We have become a go-to for celebrations, team-building events, and fundraising. We couldn't be more grateful for the group of dynamic and fun folks we have assembled.”
Why iCOMBAT?
What made MI-Combat choose us over other laser tag options?
“The quality of the gear, the leaderboard, electronic badges, and membership is what elevates iCombat over all other options. The visits to the existing arenas and the discussions with the established operators sealed the deal.”
Advice for Future Operators
Looking to launch a laser tag arena of your own? Here's some helpful insight:
“This is the hardest you’ll ever work to have so much fun. Take pride in delivering the best product possible. Always do the right thing, and understand that you’ll constantly be learning. Be humble, collaborate, and lean on the community of operators who’ve already paved the way. I now consider many of them some of my closest friends.”
They also emphasized the importance of reputation and teamwork:
“Players love to travel to different fields. One bad experience at one location can affect every other field. We’re in this together. The success of one is the success of all.”
Trust and Dedication
When it comes to choosing a business to invest in, trust is everything.
“The relationship and trust you have to have in the company that you are looking to invest your time, energy, livelihood and future in cannot be understated. iCombat is a dedicated and committed group of people who are looking to do the best, be the best, and are the best.”
