What is traditional laser tag?

It's a fairly new term that is being used in the industry to separate Tactical, Outdoor, and Mobile from the OG of laser tag! Traditional started nearly 30 years ago and still occupies the majority of the market. It is almost always played with a phaser that is tethered to a vest (pack). These phasers look very spacey with many companies using large and blocky equipment with transparent or colored casings. The games are non-mission dependent or with very simple missions and in some instances provide players with a score. These games are played in blacklight friendly mazed environments with smoke or haze to amplify the “laser effect”

What are the newest trends for traditional laser tag?

The option to be tethered or untethered to a vest or a simple sensor sling, which aids in the speed of equipping clients in the airlock. With our phaser, the Invictus, we added the ability to use flashlights in low-level environments, shields for short periods of invincibility, the choice of character classes selectable by the player during the match. Also, the reporting of stats and scores now being available online and not just given to the player on the field printed.

What are the things people like most about traditional laser tag?

Traditional laser tag is kid-friendly and perfect for family entertainment centers. The gameplay is fast paced and easy to learn, allowing operators to move groups through games quickly while keeping energy high and players engaged. Its colorful LEDs on the equipment, simple objectives, and approachable play style make it a great option for younger players, families, and first-time participants looking for a quick fun game.

Can traditional and tactical laser tag be played together?

Yes. We call this “hybrid laser tag” because traditional and tactical laser tag can successfully operate within the same arena. This approach allows operators to attract younger players and birthday parties during the day while offering a more immersive tactical experience for teens and adults during evening hours. By appealing to multiple audiences throughout the day, operators can maximize arena usage, increase bookings, and generate additional revenue from the same space.
